5.0 out of 5 stars still love them, but mostly I just want a watch ...
Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2016
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
I’m over big, bulky watches. I’ve got my Suunto and a couple G-Shock watches. I still wear them, still love them, but mostly I just want a watch that keeps nice, precise time, doesn’t stand out from my wrist 3/4 inch and hopefully looks juuuust a little dorky. I’m also cheap. Waterproofness is important to me. I work a desk job. I commute by bus or train- watches help with that. I like to go on a run a couple times a week and wear a watch. I don’t sleep or shower with my watch on unless I’m camping or in a hotel. I like digital over analog because I kind of like to know exactly what time I think it is and I only ever estimate when I’m reading an analog watch because I’m lazy. Also, when I’m in a meeting or I’ve been pinned-down by someone I don’t want to talk to and I want to know if this really is taking forever or if my perception of the passage of time is just being warped- it’s easier to sneak a peek at a digital watch and get a precise read. I realized a few months ago that I really am just as happy wearing a $15 Casio as I am with my $250 Suunto and that most days I don’t need to know the barometric pressure. Some days, yes. Most days, no. But I like having a variety of watches (including the Suunto, which is fabulous). And I like to choose which watch to wear each morning. That’s fun for me. Recently I got on Amazon and ordered a bunch of new cheap Casio watches. I got four new watches for $52. I think Timex’s are over-priced. That’s how cheap I am.

Casio W-800HAV ($20-ish) Digital Black. My eight-year old son and I each got one of these watches for Christmas 2016. We both love it. We both have other watches but wear this one the most. It has a fairly low profile- doesn’t catch on pockets or shirt sleeves. I love the light- it looks stupid, like piddly. But it actually lights the face well. I go jogging at night sometimes. The light works well enough for me to see how slow I am even while I’m bouncing down the road. And it’s got “Dual Display”. I don’t know what else to call that. It shows the time on one part of the screen and at the same time it show the stopwatch numbers. Nice to keep track of both. Or, If I’m out and about, I’ll set a stopwatch when the train goes by because I know that the train comes by every 15 minutes. So I can see when I’m coming up on another 15-minute mark and also see the time on the sub-display.

Casio F-201WA ($10.47) Digital Black. Comfortable. Lightweight. Easiest buttons to push. Good light. I like that it has countdown timer and lots of alarms. I miss being able to see the time when it’s in stopwatch mode like I can with the W-800HAV and the WV-200A.

Casio WV-200A ($40-ish) Waceceptor Digital Black with chrome and red. Looks good. Like the steel case. Good protection for the glass. Relatively heavy. A liiiiitle too thick. Really nice buttons. Great electro-luminescent light. This one is the only watch of the group that you can set it so it doesn’t beep every time you push a button. I really like being able to turn the beep off. Sometimes I like to set a stopwatch in a meeting so I can see how long somebody is going on with some bullsh*t. Strangely, timing somebody’s bullsh*t is a nice distraction from the bullsh*t. But I don’t like my watch to beep when I’m doing pushing buttons. “Dual display”- you can still see what time it is when you’re in other modes. Countdown timer is nice and many of my other watches don’t have one. I don’t give it extra points for the whole Wave Ceptor thing. Doesn’t add any value for me and it kinda sucks battery. This watch has been on my wrist for a full day of snorkelling and handled it beautifully. I live in a land-locked state, so when I get to the ocean, I’m in the water ALL DAY LONG. I can’t dive deeper than maybe 20 feet, so it’s not a serious test for a watch that says it’s good to 200m. But if you’re diving to 200m and time is critical, you’re going to spring for something more than a $40 Casio. (I love you, Casio).

Casio HDA-600 ($14.79) Black Analog. Not the most comfortable. Kinda squeezes my wrist from bone to bone or flops around a bit. I dunno, it just fits weird. YMMV. Love the face protector. Can’t wait until it starts to look a little banged up. Glowy dots on the hands aren’t really impressive. Date window works perfectly. Looks tough but it’s probably not. I like it a lot.

Casio MQ24-7B2 ($14-something) White-faced Analog. Incredibly light. Truly forget that you’re wearing it. Easy to read. No date window. No lumi. Nice, simple and never catches your sleeve in a dress shirt. Yes, I’m fancy. Some people are smart enough to read an analog watch that doesn’t have numbers on it- just dots. I’m not one of those people. I screw it up enough when there’s numbers. This has numbers. I like numbers. Haven’t tested this one for waterproofyness. Casio only says it’s water resistant. I hardly ever do underwater demolitions anymore.

Casio A168W-1 ($16.15) Stainless Digital. I love / hate this watch. I don’t know if Casio was really trying to make a watch that looks fancy but it’s really a dork-bomb, or if they we’re going for dork-bomb as their aim. Either way. This watch is a stunning success. I think this watch is the pinnacle of nerd-swank. 1980’s wannabe stockbroker, cool old guy who doesn’t give a sh*t, little bit of silver under the sleeve to catch someone’s eye- oh wait it’s a friggin Casio digital. I mean, it’s chrome-plated PLASTIC for crying out loud. How awesome is that? I love all of that. Love it. It’s got the Illuminator light, which works great. Clock, date, stopwatch and alarm. No countdown timer. The metal band is not comfortable. It’s got edges and it pulls on my arm fur. Clasp works great and it’s wicked-easy to adjust. Slips under a dress shirt easily. Again: super-dorky. Makes me smile every time I put it on. Then wince when it pulls the fur.

Casio F91W-1 ($11.35) Black Digital. I like this watch a lot. It’s super thin. Very lightweight. The light looks stupid but it works well. The buttons are easy to hit. It ranks pretty high on the ‘Dork’ scale. People recognize it. Hold that one button down and it says CASIo. It’s great. Proud to say I’ve never worn this watch along with flannel and a beanie. Never.

This is probably the most practical watch one can own. Great job Casio!

I do not understand the current trend of “cookie on a strap” when it comes to watches. You really want an 8 ounce watch made from steel salvaged from a sunken ship? This watch confidently bucks that trend both in size but also in practical value. The F91 is for those with more brains than money.

If you take a look back in watch history when watches were made to tell time and not function as high fashion, watches were smaller. The common man sized watch was about 35mm wide. Guess how wide the F91 is, yup, about 35mm wide. Do you suppose there might have been a reason watches were smaller? Perhaps weight and comfort? Ever try wearing one of the “cookie on a strap” watches with a long sleeved shirt or with gloves? As Dr. Phil would say, “how’s that working out for you?”.

The F91 fits under shirts easily and doesn’t catch on the cuff. It’s so light you forget it’s on your wrist, unlike a Seiko monster I once owned that I could not wait to take off. After you have forgotten it’s on your wrist, no reason to baby it. It’s water resistant and will survive getting knocked around just fine.

Unlike our smart watches of today, battery life is measured in years, not hours. I can’t believe I didn’t get one sooner and I can’t believe people by watches that won’t run more than 18 - 24 hours without a power source to charge the battery. That’s not progress, that’s regress. Funny how with a enough marketing some believe black is really white and the moon is just the sun at night.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much like in the age of early man
Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2018
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
In this day and age ‘greatness’ is a term used too often and too frequently, to truly achieve greatness one must bring things back to first principles. Much like in the age of early man, the importance of measuring the passing of time, the arc of the sun and moon across the sky and the changing of seasons has been core to surviving, thriving and dominating, and, in the F91-W we have the essence of the 200,000 year journey mankind has made. When man’s time on earth has passed, the F91-W will remain, keeping time in dutiful simplicity, abiding by its key tenets of dependability, timelessness and quartz precision. Other watches may come and go and, like the trappings of youth, you might be tempted to look to the glitz and shine of a gold Rolex. For this affliction I’d recommend the F-91WM-9ACF Casio Men's 'Classic' Quartz Metal and Resin Casual Watch, color: gold. Once the F91-W is on your wrist you will notice the subtle but definite shift of your stress levels, sort of like the soothing feeling of writing on a banana with a ball point pen. Who do I recommend the F91-W for? Well, simply the person who wishes to have a watch that tells the time, especially in dark environs that call for a subtly lit time check instead of the retina-frying, ‘distant explosion’ light flare of an iPhone screen. Imagine being able to time check the remaining run time of a big screen movie without lighting up the entire theatre? Imagine never having to worry about charging a device you carry with you every single day? Imagine being able to take that device with you even into the shower? Imagine that, even if you break it (which is difficult to do), you need not fear the cost of the loss, nor the time lost trying to navigate an appointment with the Apple Store to fix the ‘gorilla glass’ (which let’s face it should be re-named ‘delicate flamingo’ glass). Imagine that nobody will even notice you are wearing a watch or even consider mugging you for it and imagine that you can get all this for the princely sum of $10.35 (at time of writing). Well, imagine no more because, in the words of famed 2005 Sydney Swans Premiership Coach Paul Roos, “HERE IT IS!”.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun to wear - Try out different straps.
Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2019

If you have a collection of 18mm straps, give it a try swapping them out. For me, NATO straps make it more comfortable to wear. It's becoming almost pointless but leather straps also works. Beware that pins aren't spring bars, so you have to push them out with a tool, place your strap, and push the bar back into. And the watch is also very functional too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb watch - a few small differences from the classic F-91W
Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2020
Color: GreenVerified Purchase
I own a bunch of G-Shocks, and the DW-290, but at the end of the day, the F-91W wins out. Nothing comes close in terms of lightness, comfort, and reliability, and this version is no different.
I don't know if this has been mentioned by many reviewers, but I just wanted to point out a few small differences between this olive green model and the original black one:
1) For whatever reason, the strap on this one is just a hair shorter (see photo).
2) The LCD screen of the green model is *slightly* worse than that of the original - text is less sharp/clear.
3) As the band on the green model is slightly shorter, the spacing between the holes is slightly different - meaning the two watches will not fit exactly the same.

That said, none of these are dealbreakers in any way; the green is faintly metallic (almost has a glitter sheen to it), and looks great, and the functionality and performance are identical to the original. Well worth the money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Casio forged this to survive the apocalypse
Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2015
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
Back in the dreaded years of high school, I really needed a watch for the SAT, something simple and efficient. I stumbled across this baby by looking up the highest rated digital watches on Amazon. At roughly $11 with endless stream of 5-stars, the watch seemed to be exactly what I needed. Little did I know that this Casio F91W-1 was much more than just a throwaway item. This baby has lasted through extreme usage. I hike with it; it's resistant to scratches. I swim with it; it's water-resistant. I've dropped it a few times when putting it on (I've got butter fingers) and there are no dents or scratches. You may as well nickname this the Nokia 3310 watch.

This may seem like a cheap watch, but Casio forged this thing to survive the apocalypse. If you're a fellow zombie hunter and want a sturdy, indestructible watch, this is the watch for you! All jokes aside, it is a great piece and you can't go wrong with it. Highly recommend it.

1. Very Durable and Reliable
2. They will last 10 Years... except the strap. ( $3 bucks)
2. Battery last 5 years. Then it is probably best to buy a new watch. Price of battery + Strap is as much as the watch.
3. VERY INEXPENSIVE $ 15
4. The most lightweight watch out their. Very water resistant. I shower, bath, swim with it on.

5. Casio make at least 10 models of this watch.
I prefer the one with the backlight,
But bought this one for the gold like looks and a little more variety.

6. I've got about 4 of these... the bands go and I just buy a new one, since it is easier.

7. Casio has been making this watch for probably 30 years.

I have other nice dress watches, but you have to wind them or replace the batteries yearly.

You can't go wrong on this watch. For the cost of 3 Starbucks you've to a go to watch for any sport . I also have a Polar.

Its the exact same as the F-91W. One alarm, it chimes every hour, day of week and day of month are always at display. Right lower button still changes to military time or 12 hour display. But its pink gel color!! Which is pretty unique. The only difference is the casing lettering. Its has the same slenderness as the original F-91W. Gift for my sister. She loved the color and specifically mentioned the lightness and comfort of the watch. I think its worth the money because Casios like these are pretty hard to come around in a local store.

5.0 out of 5 stars World's best watch?
Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2015

To address some of the negative reviews.

1) There are a lot of fakes of this watch. The genuine watch comes in one color, black, according to the Casio website. Given there's a pink version available on Amazon, apparently they don't know the difference! (See youtube on telling fakes apart.) I bought directly from Amazon, not simply fulfilled, and received the genuine article in a Casio box, with documentation, and warranty papers. If your watch breaks early or is inaccurate, you have a fake. If water killed your watch, it's probably fake. If your watch came in a plastic bag, it's probably fake. If the watch smells like plastic, it's fake.

2) This watch is the perfect size for smaller wrists. If you want a big watch, this is not for you.

3) The resin band is very comfortable. It's waterproof, won't absorb sweat, and it nicely designed. I don't see it breaking anytime soon.

This is a great watch. It stays perfectly accurate for days and days. It's been to the pool and rained on, and it still looks new.

Note: The correct country of origin is Thailand. Amazon incorrectly lists China and sometimes USA.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. Amazing watch!

Good:
Have had this watch for about two weeks and I LOVE it. It is EXTREMELY light weight (almost impossible to feel on your wrist unless you have it so tight it is cutting off circulation which you shouldn't be doing anyway). If it is tightened properly, you cannot feel it. The time is easy to read. The band is plastic, meaning it is waterproof and you don't have to take it off to wash your hands (like I was having to do with all my leather bands and getting annoyed). Also shows the day and the date, which is super helpful during a hectic work week when everything starts to blur together.

Has a retro 1980s vibe that is totally in right now with Stranger Things and hipsters and I've gotten a lot of compliments on it. Somehow, after all of these features, the watch still costs only $9. Thus, I offer this watch up as the very best value in any watches anywhere. I thought my $20 Timex was a good value, but after buying this watch the Timex just sits in my drawer since it seems so comparatively heavy, high maintenance (canvas band that starts to smell funky after a few weeks and needs watching). I wear this watch daily and get a weird kick out of putting it on. The best $9 I have spent in a long time. Has an aesthetic that is 100% functional/pragmatic, which just makes it a fun thing to use. I wish I had purchased this watch YEARS ago. I am excited about using this watch to backpack since I am not afraid about it being stolen, quickly tells me the time (digital), won't absorb odors or show dirt, and weighs nothing.

Bad:
The one thing I wish this watch had was an Indiglo feature like Timex watches have, since the light up feature on this watch is sufficient to see, but not nearly as nice as Timex Indiglo.

I have been buying this watch for 25 - 30 years. They tend to last about 5 years until the strap breaks. I use the stop watch feature several times a day and the date feature. The alarms are also nice to have but I don't use them as much. The light feature doesn't enable me to read the time int he dark. This watch is so inexpensive that I usually buy 2 or 3 at a time in case a strap breaks or to keep one on standard time and the other on daylight savings time. When the strap breaks I use them in the kitchen to time items which are being cooked. The watch is very lightweight and I am not even aware that I am wearing it unless I specifically look at it. I have never seen any watch that is so inexpensive yet has such a range of easy to use features. If you want something to measure time and aren't concerned about having a prestige watch, this is the one for you as it is for me. Joe Canino

I spent a very long time in the watch business. I know high end watches extremely well. This is not high end, but it is quality. As I've aged, I wanted a watch I could see. No micro date in a window, no winding, just something ultra simple. This fit the bill. It just fits my 8" wrist, I can see it with ease, and the 10 year battery is a bonus. Plus, if I damage it, so what? At this price I can replace it as needed. I have over 700 watches in my collection, and there are four I use regularly. This one, most often.

I'm bananas for this watch. The photos do not really show the case color well. The color is between silver and gun metal and it reminds me of the scifi toys that we had in the 80's. I think it would look fantastic on an orange or black and grey nato band.

If you are an f-91w enthusiast you will also notice that the face on this model is altered to remove all of the blue markings. For this release they opted for a grey color scheme.

As a final note you should know that this is a legitimate casio 'collections' release. This is not one of the colorful f-91w knockoffs drop shipped from pacific rim. This is a real f91w and it looks great.

My last F91-W lasted 22 years. It was an absolute beast, surviving everything I threw at it. Full submerging, mud caked over it, falling through a ceiling, and reaching to the bottom of a solvent bucket. It “failed” when the stay started breaking. So I bought a new one. Can’t recommend them enough. This one has an okay gold finish with a slight metallic bent.

This watch is absolutley AMAZING!!!!!! I had to get this for a medical program so I can count pulse and respiration rate, and I needed a watch to count seconds. I've had this watch for two months now and it works FANTASTICALLY!

First of all, it is REALLY easy to set up and all instructions are included! It is SO handy because it tells you the time in hours, minutes, and seconds! It can also be swtiched from military to AM/PM time with a press of a button! It tells you the day (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday... etc) and the date (1st, 2nd, 3rd... etc) which is really helpful!! A great added feature!

The watch is very comfortable, and it's easy to adjust!! While going to school, I work at a dog grooming salon and I was so scared to wear this while bathing dogs, because I usually get SOAKED, or at least get water all over my hands/arms. This watch is really durable though! I have gotten it soaked literally every single time I've worked since I've gotten it, and it still looks and works perfectly! I've also dropped this watch a couple times with no damage!

I HIGHLY recommend this watch, its really useful and a GREAT deal for the price!!!

Dotted throughout the sea of reviews, I saw that folks thought this watch was too small. BUT. I can kinda see that if you are on the heavier or just bulkier side. If you're even relatively slender this watch fits wonderfully. The backlight works in the situation where it counts; bleary eyed at who-knows-when o'clock. BUT YOU KNOWS WHEN. Because the screen is lit up just enough to read the time! I have this watch worn with the face on the palm-side of my wrist. My leather cuff fits over it so i can read the time between the fasteners.

I love this watch and if it only last 6 months to a year I'll be happy with the $10 spent.

EDIT/UPDATE: August 5th, 2017! Still going well! And in fact, I've made friends with other folks wearing the same watch! We end up talking about how awesome digital watches and alarm clocks are.. Because we're boring I s'pose. BUT. Still going strong. Its 30sec alarm beeps wakes me more often than my phone's alarm. 10/10 would recommend still

This watch does exactly what a watch is supposed to do. I love the looks I get and conversations with people with expensive watches on their wrist.

Actual stranger encounter-

Me: A watch.
Stranger: How come you don't have a smartwatch?
Me: I spent $15 dollars on mine, how much was yours?
Stranger: *looks at her Apple watch* I'm not sure how much it is. I make payments on it.
Me: Wait... you financed a watch?!

Every time I look down at my wrist, it reminds me that money is much better spent on something else. Can't believe people spend $400+ on a sad excuse for a fashion statement that will be obsolete in a year.

Also, the retro look is pretty cool.

5.0 out of 5 stars The F91W fits my wrist really well (4th from the last hole) with a comfortable fit. Perhaps it is just luck
Reviewed in the United States on December 25, 2016
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
The Casio F91W-1 is a minimal, well designed, and very accurate watch.

I have fairly small wrists for a male and I've always found watches hard to wear — I usually have to use the last hole on the strap with a lot of excess strap hanging out of the holder. The F91W fits my wrist really well (4th from the last hole) with a comfortable fit.

Perhaps it is just luck, but I've found my particular F91W to be very accurate comparing it to time.gov and a clock that auto synchronizes with NIST. I've been comparing it to 2 Casio A158Ws I purchased around the same time and both of those lose a couple of seconds per week while the F91W continues to remain accurate.

I got over smartwatches pretty fast since IMO having to dock a watch every two days kind of defeats the purpose of a reliable timepiece. I don't even care that this makes me sound old, anyone with a similar opinion will love this watch since it's about 1/20th of the price and won't need a recharge for about 7 years.

Plus it's classic style is known and distinguished among generations, so you get style points without going broke, even if you decide to keep a couple extras in different colors.

My job is very hands on, so the low profile durability on the wrist is another serious win. I'll occasionally even sleep with this thing on just from forgetting to take it off.

One last note on the backlight. This has the tiny side LED (green bulb). I debated getting the illuminator versions (the solid blue backlight) since they're brighter and more even-lit. But you don't get the face color options when going for the illuminator style backlight (since the f91w in particular wasn't made with illuminators), and trust me, you don't need it unless it's nearly pitch black, and the green light is adequate the few times you would need it, the panels alone are just as easy to read as a sheet of paper.

This watch is quietly badass. I'm being completely serious. When I see a dude with a giant timepiece, I think maybe he's compensating for something else or is just desperate for attention.

Wearing a small, minimal watch like this is a show of self-confidence.

And it's not bad-looking at all! A little dorky, but handsome. Now that most people no longer wear watches, I think wearing pretty much any watch at all adds a touch of style.

The strap may be too small for larger male wrists. While they're not really designed for it, you can put a 18mm NATO strap on one of these with a little effort. Check Y-Tube for details. It is possible to put a thin leather strap on there (I did) but the nylon ones are much easier.

I have several dress watches, but for everyday wear, I wear this watch. Why? Because it has an alarm feature, a stop watch, date, time, day of the week and so on. I bang these up pretty good, so I don't want to spend a ton of money.

That said, this watch is certainly not perfect. The case used to be made out of a solid block of stainless steel. Not anymore! The case is now made out of resin...plastic, in other words. I can get maybe a year out of the watch, then the area where the band attaches to the watch, fractures and the watch is now useless. Saves replacing the battery, I guess. I wish they would make a better mount for the band. Then, the watch would be fantastic!

But, for the price, it's a good deal. Just plan on buying one every year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Casio digital watches are always reliable. F91W has the green firefly light.

I have been buying the Casio Digital watches since the 1980's. I won't wear any other kind of watch. The resin bands are so comfortable and smooth to wear. Forget other watches that have that steel stretchy band that grabs and pulls the hair on your wrist. Casio watches don't do that. If your resin band cracks or breaks, you can always buy another band from PerFit, according to the model number of your watch, from Amazon or directly from the Casio company.
I now prefer this Quartz digital F-91W model because it is always available and it has what I call a green "firefly" light you can turn on to see what time it is in the darken movie theater. This model IS water resistant. There is an alarm you can set to the time you want it to beep. This watch is always correct to +/- 30 seconds per month. You can always reset the time of this watch down to the very second. There is an alarm you can set to beep every hour (choice of on or off) and set to an exact time. Choose 12-hour or 24-hour (military) reading. Auto calendar you can set day and date. You can even set it to "Leap Day ' (2-29).
Be sure to read the instructions to setting your watch for the first time before you wear it. Instructions are printed in English and 3 other languages.
Includes one-year warranty.
Add this Casio watch to your Amazon Wish List so you can buy another one for yourself or as a gift. Great gift for a father or grandfather to give to your sons. Casio makes a pink watch for the daughters too.

I purchased 4 of these watches. When you see what you like, it is best to buy while you can. Often companies stop making them for some reason.
This color is outstanding, it is not painted, material is the color of the case. It is a improvement over the f91w. I bought 5 of the green and 5 of the blue. I wear these watches every day. I work in a research laboratory and does everything I need.
Stop watch is very important for laboratory tests.
I have many watches, 34 in my collection, three Rolex sub mariner, And many other top brands.
This f91w keeps better time than a $7,000 watch.
I had to have the Rolex service last month, from a certified Rolex dealer, it cost me $435.00 just to oil and service this watch, which should be done every 3 years.
You can buy a lot of f91w for this service charge.

The watch fits well on my 7.25 inch wrist. I paid around $15 shipped am very happy with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars 90's Nostalgia and a Great Watch for Only $12

Color: BlackVerified Purchase
I wore a Casio F-91W watch in the 90's and I loved it as it fit perfectly under a dress shirt but also worked so well as a casual watch, and it was indestructible. It never needed a battery and kept perfect time for many years. Eventually the band broke and by then, my cell phone told the time and I stopped wearing a watch. I got back into watches 8 years ago and I now have a small collection. I had completely forgotten about the F-91W until I saw it online recently. Wow, Casio has been making the same watch since 1989! It is new and retro at the same time. I ordered one as soon as I saw it and I absolutely love my new one. It is 1990 all over again and the price of nostalgia was a mere $12. It is smaller and lighter than I remember (but that is probably because modern watches are large and heavy). It is a pleasure to wear as most of the time I forget I have it on my wrist. You can pay thousands of times more for a watch but this is all you need if you just want a dependable watch that will accurately tell you the time. Everyone should have a F-91W in their collection, no matter if you only own one watch or you own a thousand. It is an iconic watch for less $ than you will spend for lunch.

5.0 out of 5 stars BOY this thing takes paintballs like a champ

Color: BlackVerified Purchase
I love this watch, I've worn this for, I don't know maybe four years, and it's still ticking. I've worn it in rainy weather, I've worn it while playing paintball and perhaps not taking direct hits but it definitely had paint and dirt and grime on it.

I bought three and gave two away as gifts, and both of those people lost them immediately. That is painful, knowing I could have given those watches to people who actually wouldn't have lost them.

For how cheap this watch was, and all him and I have been through, you owe it to yourself.

However, the light is really bad. It's like an actual light bulb, not the screen lighting up. Yes I can see the time but it's not good. I lose maybe one second every week/week and a half so you don't have to worry about accurate time. Very simple to adjust the time, as there are only three buttons on this watch. One button is the light, one button switches between the 12 hour and 24 hour clock, and the third button cycles you through which part of the watch you want to adjust and you just hit the second button to adjust it up or down, depending on the situation.
Very slim; I have skinny wrists and it fits me perfectly so if you have beefier wrists you might want to find a larger model. It's thin so it doesn't mess with my shirts or hamper me from reaching into a pocket or whatever.
Watch might clash with your outfit if you want to dress up for an event or business or work, but any other sort of situation who cares what you wear on your wrist fellow Kings, Queens, and Emperors.

When the battery finally dies, I think I'll replace the battery rather than buy a new watch.

Anyone who has owned an F-91w knows it a a great watch so I will only talk about the differences compared to a standard F-91w. First the watch band. It is slightly darker than it appears in the amazon picture (see my picture) but overall looks good. It does however feel significantly different to the standard F-91w. It is much less flexible and as a result, it's less comfortable. It is also glossy which causes some annoying squeaks against the buckle and case. It might go away over time as the band wears down, but it thought I should mention it. My biggest complaint however is with the case. Instead of making it transparent grey like the band, they just painted it gray. It looks ok in some lights and really bad in others. I know it would cost more to make the case translucent, but it would have made it look way better. It's not a bad watch which is why I'm still giving it 4 stars, but especially for $25 I was expecting a bit more. If it ever drops to 10-15$ like most other F-91w's than it might be worth it but at the current price I would skip it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very solid every day watch. Pretty small though.
Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2020
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
I went with this watch because I was previously using a smart watch daily, but was growing tired of constantly having to charge it and having it run out of battery. When I first received the watch, I was a little surprised with how small it was. The face of the watch is just under the size of a quarter (see the attached picture), so if you're on the bigger side, this might look really small on you. The wrist strap included, as I can't imagine it being comfortable on those who have bigger wrists.

The watch itself is comfortable, and I barely notice that I'm wearing it. It is easy to read during the day, and I have found the month / date feature to be super useful as I'm constantly forgetting what day it is. Setting the watch is really easy, and I like that you can easily switch between 24 hour and 12 hour mode.

The built in light is just OK. The light really only lights up one side of the watch which can make it a challenge to read at night if your eyes aren't adjusted.

All in all, not too much to complain about given the price point. If those things aren't deal breakers for you, the watch is a really solid value, and great for every day wear.

4.0 out of 5 stars ~7.25" = max wrist size
Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2018
Color: GoldVerified Purchase
I've had it on for less than an hour, so I'll edit my review after it's gotten some real usage, but for those concerned about the band size:
The user guide says not to wear it too tight; you should be able to slide one finger underneath the band while it's on your wrist.

It fits my ~6 inch wrist just fine.

For the benefit of others looking into this watch, I loosened it and fastened the buckle in the last hole and slid it up my forearm until it fit, but while I was still able to fit a finger underneath the band and my arm.

You should probably never buy a watch that only fits using the last hole. With this watch, the loop that holds the end of the band in place can't even cover the band end when loosened to this degree.

The largest wrist this could *accommodate* would be 7.5" in diameter.

The largest wrist this could fit comfortably on would be below 7.25"

Like others have stated, the watch itself is nearly perfect in its utilitarian simplicity. My only complaint is that the wrist band is too small for a full grown male. I don't even have a large wrist and I only have two holes left on the band when I buckle it up! Is the resin really that expensive? Two or three more holes on the strap would make this a great man sized watch. As it is there are 12 holes on the band. The first six or seven holes could only be used by a child.

4.0 out of 5 stars A solid water-resistant watch, but uncomfortable wrist and unreliable date
Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2021
Color: ClearVerified Purchase
This watch is very water resistant and practical. I've taken it in the shower, a spring, and a pool and had no problems. Two things I don't like is how it feels and how easily the date switches on its own. The wrist part is made of of a material that kind of sticks to you like your skin does to certain fabrics on a hot summer day. It's really irritating to me, but I'm sensitive to that. My solution has been to wear it as loose as possible. A more annoying problem is that that the day of the week and date keep changing themselves. I think the button gets pressed as I am moving about. This is bad if you think it's one day and its actually not. I usually catch it and correct it, but that facilitates the need for a phone which contradicts the whole reason why I bought the watch, to not use my phone. I think you get what you pay for and it's fine if you need a watch for the most basic purpose of time. I have not found a need for the other functions, but they seem easy enough to work after you read the instruction manual. I have had the watch for about a month and it's already a bit scratched up. I think that's okay, but it goes to show that it is not that resilient.

4.0 out of 5 stars Economical and accurate watch
Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2021
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
This review is in two parts: First, the timepiece itself is reasonably accurate and the battery does last a long time. The only design flaw is the omission of a month display. Sure, most of us know what the current month is, but why not also have it digitally displayed beside the day of month on the face of this watch?
The second part of review is the strap that comes with this watch. These straps are made from a man-made material that slowly grows more and more brittle over time. It will eventually break, guaranteed. This usually happens near the point where the left and right straps buckle together. The watch itself will outlast the original strap plus a couple of replacement straps. I have a supply of perfectly good digital watches still keeping time, but now sitting in a storage drawer because I can no longer find suitable straps. Even if I could, they are nearly as expensive as a brand new watch. So, I purchase another $12 Casio watch because they are good for everyday use.
Speaking of straps: the strap on this watch is awful. The reason for this is the loop that secures the end of strap in place after putting watch on your wrist. The loop is floating, that is, it is not fixed in any one position on the strap. This causes it to move out of position and no longer keeps end of strap secured. That means the strap is forever catching on everything and forcing the watch to rotate around on your wrist. If you like aggravation, you'll love this strap.

Update: The silver/black version of this watch is not as rugged as the black version. The buttons are now getting stuck, and I can only use this as a shower clock. So, I took a star off for that. The review below applies to the all-black version I also have.

Previous review:
I need a bulletproof stopwatch for all of my workouts, sauna sessions, ice baths, and surfing in the Pacific Ocean. This watch does all of that, PLUS it looks like it was born out of 1988. I absolutely LOVE this retro design, especially the silver and black model. I own two of these. The only problem is that the stopwatch only goes up to one hour (59:59). A lot of my sessions are longer than that. I can tell you that it is 100% waterproof because I've put it to the test in 190ºF sauna, 39ºF ice bath, and 3-hour long surfing sessions in 55ºF water. Nothing can break this bad boy.

You can’t really beat it for the price. I’m an avid surfer and swimmer, and I can’t tell you how many other cheap watches I’ve ruined by testing my luck in the water. This one lasted about a year of surfing 2-3 times a week. I wish it lasted longer, but overall I think that’s a pretty good showing for a watch that’s under $20.

My only complaint would be that it’s easy to accidentally push the buttons when flexing your wrist. I don’t even take it off when sleeping, so this sometimes resulted in accidentally setting off the alarm in the middle of the night. Sometimes I would have to walk into another room to fix the alarm settings without waking up my girlfriend. If you just take it off before sleeping that would easily avoid this problem.

Summary: Does it look cool? Not really. Does it track the tides, or your heart rate, or altitude? Absolutely not. Is it perfect? No. Will it last forever? Also no. But does it keep good time, cost less than $20, and stand up to a decent amount of abuse, including water? Yeah, it does.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Sports Watch, but the nightlight is inadequate and there is no timer.
Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2019
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
I bought this watch to replace a 32 year old Casio. After doing my research, I bought the Ironman Classic 30 and a Casio F91W.
The Ironman is a better watch, but The price and ruggedness of the Casio can’t be beat.

First, I need to put this review in context. I am a reasonably, if not very active, forty-something. I am fit, but I have a 40 year old’s eyes and sensibilities. I use this watch primarily Just to tell time at the gym, hiking, biking or maybe swimming. I have some secondary use for it as a timer or stopwatch, but that is about it.

As you might have guessed, I am a bit of a watch minimalist, so I was happy with the size of the watch. However, I am realizing that a 35mm watch may not be optimal for a 40 year old’s eyes. To be clear I think the watch is perfectly legible/ readable, but the larger face of the Ironman is easier to read and better for older eyes.

Personally I find the controls for the watch intuitive and easier to use (other than the smaller buttons) than the Ironman, but that is coming from a guy who used a similar watch for 32 years. I have two complaints that kept me from giving five stars. First, the light on the watch isn’t bright enough to be much use— but again this is literally the view of a middle aged man. Younger or more near-sighted eyes may find the light perfectly adequate. Secondly, I actually would have appreciated a timer function and this watch doesn’t have one.

Overall, i give this four stars. Ease of use, price and ruggednesses are this watches best attributes; an inadequate light and a lack of a timer are its biggest weaknesses. So if you have $25 more to spend and don’t mind (or like) a more chunky watch, I’d recommend the Ironman Classic 30 over this watch. However, if you want to save a few bucks and your eyes are sharper than mine, the Casio is a fine choice.

Seems like a good watch so far. Because it’s so cheap I figured I’d shower with it on and then let you all know how it faired. Took a 15 minute shower and it did great! No water that I can see on the inside. I have no doubt it would handle a heavy rain just fine. Very simple and easy to operate, didn’t need the manual. Only downside is this pink version cost more than double what the black version does, but at $26 it’s still a good deal. I would buy it again. Good beater watch and the pink is nice to mix things up. I have seen videos of people running over this watch with a car and if still being fine, so it should last. The first thing that gives out on these watches is usually the band, which from what I hear lasts about 2-3 years, after which point you can either buy a new band and replace it, or just pay a tiny bit extra and get a whole new watch.

I gave it a "4" star because of that. I have not yet been caught out in the rain with it on, so I'm not sure how water-resistant it is. I'm not interested in taking it into the shower or for a swim, I just get caught in the rain sometimes and I hope it will survive that. Overall, I'm happy with it, just wish the light was USEFUL. 4.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Fancy - Does The Job.

This watch is nothing fancy. It has a built-in stop watch, light and alarm (in addition to displaying the day of week - Mon, Tue, etc., time, and day - 1st, 2nd, etc.). This watch also has "12/24 Hour" mode so you can see the time in "1pm" or "1300" formats (i.e. "military time").

I typically do not wear a wrist watch but use my cellphone instead. Due to circumstances of a camp I volunteer at, cellphones are not allowed so I needed an inexpensive replacement wrist watch that is nothing fancy (since I don't normally wear a watch and will go back to using the cellphone for time when not at this particular camp).

This watch does the basic functions well. There are only two negatives I would give:

1) the wrist band is a little short. For an adult reasonably muscular male (not sure what what my wrist diameter is), I was able to get the band around my wrist but ended up using the second-to-last hole in the band. Not a big deal but something to be aware of.

2) The light is NOT a "back-light" in that it does NOT light up the back of the watch face. Instead, the light is mounted on the left side of the display face and shines from left to right. This causes you to need to give the display a close look when using the light feature in low / dark ambient lighting.

As I've noted, I was looking for a BASIC / inexpensive watch and this one, even with the above two negatives, fits the bill nicely. Would I buy this again if I were in the market - yes, I would.

This watch doesn’t have dual times which I rarely used. The month is not visible on the face is rather embedded under the surface. Its band is soft and comfortable. The light is essentially useless, though. Setting the time and date is not difficult. It fills my need again with a useful time piece.

This new watch is basically fine, but the wristband on this one has different tightness settings (the notches in the wristband) than my old one, and it doesn't fit as well on my wrist as my old one. It's a minor annoyance. The other problem is that on the occasion where you would actually want to use the watch's alarm feature, that alarm only goes off for a couple seconds, so it probably won't actually wake you up. Otherwise, I like this simple watch. I am very loyal to the Casio brand for wristwatches. I don't want to own a fancy or visually flashy watch.

this gets 4 stars instead of 5 just because the band breaks after like a year and can't be replaced. however, this watch is so cheap i don't really mind spending $10-15/year to replace it. i still have the broken ones (the oldest one being like 6yrs old) and they still work. if they would make the band more durable, i would be willing to invest more money for a longer lasting band. i'm also pretty hard on everything i own so that might contribute to the band always snapping on me. anyway, i've been wearing this watch 24/7 except for showers for about 6yrs. i'm really sensitive to texture/sensation and i like that i can't really feel this watch on my arm. it's comfortable and stays in place. i also like that it has an option for 24hr time. bottom line: it does everything i would want it to do, it's comfortable, and this is probably the only watch i'll ever wear.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Watch with a Classic Design
Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2016
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
I had been looking for a relatively cheap digital watch, preferably from Casio, as a simple watch to start the New Year off with. When I searched "casio digital watch" this was about the second product listing, so I knew it had to be a decent watch. I had worn it for a day or two and have since replaced it with the [insert link here]. Here is my review of the Casio F91W-1 and an explanation of why I replaced it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Design & Build:
For just over $10, this Casio has great build quality and a cool retro design. In fact, the Casio F91W has been produced since 1991 and even has its own Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casio_F-91W) page! The design of the Casio is simple and classic and is probably one of the reasons why this watch is still successful after 25 years! The watch is very thin, - only 8 millimeters - especially for a digital watch, which is about the same thickness as an iPhone 5. The watch face is made of plastic and is not recessed into the body, meaning that while it is flush with the casing it can be scratched easily. The casing of the watch is made of resin which is pretty standard in most digital watches. The band is also made of resin and is comfortable enough for a $10 watch. One complaint that I have about the watches build quality is the material of which the band buckle is made of. The band buckle is made of ordinary black plastic which I can see breaking in a year or two. While I can't vouch for the longevity of this watch, I can almost confidently say that that plastic buckle will be the first part to break. Other than that, the watch features nice easy-to-press buttons which stick out from the watch a millimeter or two. The buttons are very easy to press, which can be both a good thing and a bad thing as they might be pressed accidentally. The top left button activates the display light which is very weak and only lights up from one side of the display, meaning that the left part of the display is kind of bright while the further you get to the right side of the display the light dims drastically. This seems like one of the areas Casio had to cut corners with in order to cut the cost, however, it is only a minor complaint with a $10 watch. The light shines a green light and only turns on while the button is depressed, which is kind of annoying. Digital watches I have owned in the past stayed on for a few seconds, but again, this is only a minor complaint with a $10 watch. Finally, the Casio features water RESISTANCE, not waterproofing, therefore I wouldn't go swimming with it, however, other users have reported diving with it so the decision is ultimately up to you. Overall, the Casio F91W features a simple and timeless design, as well as pretty good build quality for $10. The display light has some issues and the watch is only water resistant, but these things don't matter too much in a $10 watch.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fit:
I have around a 6-inch wrist and this watch fit great. I used a hole more towards the end of the band away from the case and it fit comfortably while not being too loose. The watch is very light and once it is on you almost forget it is there. The case is also thin and doesn't add much bulk to your arm. For me, the watch face was a good size proportionate to my wrist. It might have been a little small for my liking but it definitely didn't get in the way. Overall, I am happy with how the F91W fit on my wrist.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall:
This watch is a great watch for the price. While I can't vouch for the longevity of this watch, I can say that it features a great design and decent build quality, as well as a good and comfortable fit (at least for my wrists). To conclude, if you have a bit over $10 to spend on a digital watch, you really can't go wrong with the Casio F91W.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pros:
- Classic simple design
- Decent build quality
- Comfortable
- Thin and light
- Easy-to-press buttons
- Good fit for me
- Accurate time-keeping (Casio claims that the watch is accurate to ±30 seconds per month due to the quartz movement of the watch)

Cons:
- Weak plastic band buckle
- Easily scratched plastic face
- Weak and poorly designed display light
- Buttons may get accidentally pressed
- Only water resistant
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why I Replaced it:
Even though the Casio F91W is a great watch for the money, I decided I wanted something a bit nicer, even if it meant spending a little bit more money. After browsing Amazon for other Casio watches, I came across the  G-Shock G100-BV Men's Black Resin Sport Watch . The reason why I replaced the F91W isn't because it isn't a good watch, instead, I replaced it because I wanted something a little nicer with a more rugged design. To conclude, I replaced the F91W not because it wasn't good, but because of personal preference.

Not much to say that hasn't already been said. It does the basics, plus a stopwatch that you'll never use. It's very thin and light. The back light is sad but works in a pinch. The thin resin band will become brittle, split, and eventually break. The watch costs less than most bands. I've gone swimming with these and they usually can handle it. One fogged-up on me once, IIRC. The A158 is the metalized-plastic version of this with a stainless steel wrist band.

Been through a few of these. Realized I never replaced the last one that I lost when the band broke at some point. For anyone that owns more than a few watches, it's hard not to have one or two of these floating around.

It looks small even on my skinny wrist, but I love it, it is so retro looking!

EDIT: Some time has passed so I'll give some more of my opinions...
-The light on the display isn't the brightest but you'll still be able to tell time in pitch darkness however it only illuminates from the left side of the watch, not the whole thing.
-The band is decent; I can wear it up to the sixth hole; any less and it'd be uncomfortable, any more and it would slip around my wrist. I recommend you wear it loose enough that air can pass through but so that it won't slip around cause it gets sweaty.
-I have bumped it against a few hard surfaces and there are no marks or scratches.
-With the push of a button on the lower right side it switches interchangeably from standard to military time.
-Have not tested the alarm, since I just use my phone for that.
-Design looks straight from the late 80s early 90s which is a plus.
-How waterproof is it? Well I have SEEN a video of someone blasting it with a high pressure water hose and it still worked.
All in all it is an inexpensive, dependable, durable watch that is a little on the small side, but you get used to it. I want to upgrade it with a 18mm(the only size that fits) NATO strap in the future to give it more flare.

Watch looks great in pictures but I ended up returning it simply because the jelly strap is extremely stiff, it’s nothing like the soft rubber of the black f91 and the watch sits very awkwardly on your wrist; to make it sit well you have to tighten it a lot.

Beautiful watch but comfort is terrible, be aware.

Pros: Cheap. Relatively impact resistant. Easy to set time and date, stores month so day only has to change on leap year, didn’t even need booklet to go over controls. Strap fits very small wrists. Case size looks normal for very small wrists.
Cons: Extremely lightweight and flimsy feeling. No water-proofing, merely “water resistant”. Buttons are very small.
Overview: This watch is a name brand for very cheap with a “movement” that is accurate and easy to use. As an adult this watch will not suffice, however for a younger child, this would be a decent option as opposed to other cheap watches at this price point.

3.0 out of 5 stars Basic watch, small & light -- but with a pitiful light!
Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2020

The last couple of these I've bought (I've been wearing Casio watches for many years) were the larger, bulkier "Sport" models, which have larger, easier to read screen, and a few more features -- but much bulkier, and the straps were always oversize for my small wrists. Maybe that's one reason the bands never last long? But my guess is, poor Chinese plastic & quality control. My last two watches still work, and keep perfect time -- but it's a real pain to change the band. So when it broke, I thought, hell with it. For ten bucks... These would likely fit women too, who prefer this style of watch.

It is absurd to have to toss a perfectly good watch (w/ a 10-yr battery!) in the drawer, b/c the new band costs as much as a new watch! It is also annoying that each different Casio module has a different time-set sequence. This one is even LESS intuitive than the last. Bah. I just attempted to link instructions on how to turn off the annoying hourly "beep" -- since the instructions Casio supplies flat don't work. So I guess you're on your own. Hint: boxerwatches[dot]com instructions do work. Black mark to Amazon for blocking my comment!

I've been in the market for a new watch because my old band just broke in two and you can't buy bands very easily anymore. And these Casio watchbands have a different shape (posts are narrower than the band), so it's easier to just replace the watch.

There are a number of these Casio watches that would appear to be the same except for the color. There are, however, slight differences. This one (F-91WM-7ACF / silver) and the black one (EAW-F-91W-1 Sport watch, ASIN B000GAWSDG ) are 33 mm in diameter instead of 35.5 mm. They also have an 18 mm band, whereas the others (F-91WM-3ACF [green], ASIN B07BQXXNQY, and F-91WM-1BCF [grey], ASIN B07C9F8XLL) supposedly have a 19.25 mm band (though I've had the green one & the band says "18 mm" on it). The thickness of the silver & black ones is also only 8 mm vs. 8.38 on the other two. Oddly, those slight variations make a difference. I find this silver one to fit better and be more comfortable. The band is also just a tad shorter, which works perfectly for me. It must make the holes a better fit for the circumference of my wrist. Frequently, watches sit a little to the outside on my wrist instead of centered. This one centers nicely and is, therefore, more comfortable. I forget it's there.

That being said, this watch does have room for improvement. The light (as with any non-Indiglo [Timex], apparently) is a joke. It literally lights up the leftmost 25% or so of the face - all of one character. I don't find that particularly useful. (Something to keep in mind if you're planning on a late night burglary or something & need to synchronize your watch with someone else's - you won't be able to see it in the dark, which could spoil the whole job!)

It also has a knack for switching modes. The right button switches between 12-hr & 24-hr modes. (At least it's easier to do than some.) Trouble is, half the time, I look down & it's military time. I don't know how it keeps getting bumped. (At least I'm assuming that's what's happening.) It's a bit annoying. (I guess it's teaching me to think in military time.)

It was super easy to set, initially. I didn't need the manual. However, if you download a pdf version of the manual from their site, you might want to rename it. I've got a couple of different ones & the model names don't match the watch. The functionality should be the same, but they reference the buttons by different names. (A-B-C vs L-C-A - why?) The manual itself is a bit of joke. This thing has suddenly taken to beeping (nothing set to beep) and I can't find anything to stop it. The stopwatch isn't intuitive to clear. And the instructions in the manual didn't work. But, leaving it displaying a stopped stopwatch for several minutes did finally clear it.

So, it's a bit annoying, but it was cheap. So, it'll do. I still prefer the older Timexes. They used to be really good watches, but they've declined in recent years. So, I can't see paying 2-3x more to maybe just get the Indiglo feature, other things being relatively equal. So, we'll see how this holds up.

3.0 out of 5 stars Watch Not for bigger wrists

Well, first of all, Casio make some very good affordable digital watch since the 70s, but this particular model is ok for the price, but I definitely would not recommend to people with a larger wrist, I don’t personally like the over-size watch that is available right now, it’s so pretentious and definitely lack elegant, it’s like wearing a washing machine on your wrist.
I personally prefer the vintage watch size, and 36 inch is probably the sweet spot. However, somehow this watch being a digital watch, the digital screen is kind of small, it wasted a lots of usable space on the dial, and the digital time is hard to read unless you hold it up close, the band barely fit my 7 inch wrist, and the night light is totally useless, so dim-you wonder why bother, overall, you are probably better off buying the the older Casio digital watch with the bigger read out and of course not the oversized Casio they offer today especially in the G-Shock category. l always wonder why can they just make a smaller G-Shock for men, I would buy one for sure.

3.0 out of 5 stars Band is a little short

The watch certainly keeps very good time but that's where it ends. The light is not bright enough to be very useful at all. The alarm is too quiet to hear if there is any significant ambient noise. The biggest problem, however, is the length of the band. While I am not small, I feel that I have a normal sized wrist and this watch is tight even on the last hole. In addition, because the band is so short, on the last hole or two the tail of the band does not remain in the retainer and sticks out, hanging up on the sleeve of my shirt. The band needs to be an inch or so longer. If you have a small wrist, this watch would be fine if you don't care about the light or the alarm.

I've had one version of this watch or another since about 1990-something, they all work the same way, and it does what I need it to do: tell time and be inexpensive enough that when I accidentally bring it too close to the alternator's spinning fan, well, I just buy a new one. I think the first one I bought cost twelve dollars, so this one's cheaper today, when you take into consideration how the U.S. has devalued the currency since then. Only real problem is that the strap is too short for an adult man - when they first came out, they had a longer strap that you could trim if it was too long.

3.0 out of 5 stars Around the House Watch
Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2019
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
So, I like to wear a watch around the house and when I sleep. I have a decent sized watch collection, but few things I consider to be my home utility watch. I wanted to add to that collection, so that was the mindset I had for this piece. This piece has a lot of history, which is cool, and it serves the primary function of telling time fine. However, there is some utility it lacks, and in all honesty I would tell you to pass on this watch. So hear is what I can say:
Intended Use: Around the house utility with need for in the dark functionality.
That said it fared ok at this. It is pretty small, but very clear to read. It is a very small thin watch, even on my skinny wrists, but still is able to be read in a lit room or outside easily. I do enjoy that I do not notice it, which makes it easier for doing tasks without snagging it or having it impede mobility.
The negative is that this light is the worst I have ever had on a watch. You get the hour and that is about it. This really killed the use for me as I like to be able to check the time quickly at night without the use of my phone.
Also, I use my watches for cooking, and without a countdown timer, there goes another aspect of functionality I would like. Remember it has a stopwatch, but no countdown timer.

My recommendation would be to spend an extra ten bucks and get the really cool Casio World Time that gives you a better light, timer, stopwatch, and different time zones for travel. It is also a lot bigger and easier to read at night. I greatly prefer that watch.

This watch however does do a killer job of telling you the time and date, and if you are looking for something with the least amount of wrist-presence while telling you the time effectively then this is a great watch. If you want much more out of it, there is a lot better for not a lot more money.

Not sure if the pin system is different but I ended up destroying the side of the watch and cutting myself in the process. Never had this issue before. The finish on the new one seems to be a matte finish, different from my old one. Will try and return but again.. this thing is destroyed after an hour of trying to swap the band. Got one side 50% attached and the other side I could not.
*** Update. 2 days of tinkering with it and I finally attached the new band. Wouldn't let it beat me. Last pic shows my old on the left and (this) new one on the right. See the difference in finish?

I got this watch to keep me from constantly looking at my phone for the time, only to just pop in and check social media and then end up scrolling through troll comments for 20 minutes. In some ways it worked, but really the screen is hard to see in all but well-lit spaces and the green “light” function is so dim you literally cannot see the right half of the screen. So essentially the one valuable thing this watch has was rendered nigh-useless in common conditions like dimly lit rooms and the nighttime. Also worth noting: the watch band is very small. It actually fit my 5 year old daughters wrist. It fit my wrist too, but on one of the largest sizing holes. Not the end of the world, but this is not the watch foe you if you have larger diameter wrists.

This watch was smaller than expected. As a 6'6" 270lb man, this watch looks like a toy on me, but this is not why I am leaving two stars.

To me this watch should do 3 things. Tell me the date, tell me the time, and have a quality back-light. The time an date are perfect. But the backlight is not the full screen on some other name brand watches. It is a small, weak light on the far left of the face that only really illuminates the hour and not the minute. As someone who checks what time it is while laying in bed, this was a let down.

For 10 bucks, it would make a good watch for a kid or wife to have a burner watch, but that is it. In my opinion, go with the 30 dollar casios that arent knockdown models.

The band is tiny, barely fits around my wrist and so thin and flimsy, it stands little chance of surviving for any length of time. Package arrived in an envelope with the box and plastic stand the watch ships on both smashed. I buy cheap plastic watches because my arm gets banged around a lot. Never got one this flimsy, though. Obviously intended for a 4 year old to play with for a couple of days before he loses it. Bave owned a lot of Casio watches over the years, but never got one this unlikely to survive. Don't buy this product. Decided to buy a different watch from a different seller via prime. Should be here in a couple of days. Even for 10 bucks, c'mon.
Ive honestly had $5 gas station watches that lasted longer.

From Wiki:

Water resistance Edit
The watch front is marked "Water Resist",[6] but Casio reports different values for different variants of the watch. The black version (F91W-1)[7] is "30 meter / 3 bar" (i.e. 100 feet / 44 psi), the ISO standard meaning of which is: "Suitable for everyday use. Splash/rain resistant. NOT suitable for showering, bathing, swimming, snorkeling, water related work and fishing".

So yeah the watch pieces individually are water resistant, but not the completed watch itself.

I didn't want to sponge dive with it, just wear normally.

By the way, it actually did say " CASIo" when you held the right button in.

Waste of time.

You know, at one time this model, and few other Casios were the best "mechanics" watches out there, due to their cost, durability, thinness, lack of conductivity, and well....they were already black.
I've had many of this model before.
It's sad that the quality is slipping so far from where it once was.

About two days ago, I noticed two cracks forming on either side of the top strap hinge and knew it was a matter of time before the strap would come off altogether. Well, here we are. I also wore this watch into a hot tub for no more than 15min and there was condesantion on my screen for a few days afterwards, so water resistance also leaves a lot to be desired. Overall, I'm bummed because I really liked the watch and how light, simple and easy it was to use. Now I'm on the hunt for another inexpensive watch that will hopefully last more than 2 months.

I am not happy with this watch. I specifically bought it to be able to tell what time it was during the night when I would wake up. The lighting feature is poor, next to useless. I remember when these watches backlighted the entire screen, making them easy to read. This one does not do that - has a light over at one side that only lights enough to see what hour it is - can't read the entire watch face. Very poor, and I am greatly disappointed.

EDIT - thought I was in the clear, but the replacement watch just took a bit longer to show the exact same issue.

Worn a total of two times - first time, I noticed a tiny hairline crack along the right edge of the case that started spreading onto the watch face (photo 1). This crack spread and started branching, fully across the face and down it the second and final time I wore it (photo 2). It's been sitting on my dresser, untouched, where the face continues to destroy itself (photo 3). I bought this to wear while kayaking, and there's no way this is water resistant now! Manufacturing defect - probably? I remember my dad would wear these for years without issue. Amazon was great with sending me out a replacement though, and it's a timelessy-designed digital watch at an incredible price point - so I'm hoping this replacement fares better!

Fortunately Amazon has great customer service. I didn’t even need to return the watch for the refund. Not sure If it’s because they know how terrible the light is. I really like the size of the watch as I have very small wrists but unfortunately the light is useless. It does absolutely nothing to help see the time in the dark. I have another Casio coming that I hope is not too big. In the mean time I can use this but only during the day

1.0 out of 5 stars not very "water resistant"

I bought this to replace another identical casio watch that got water into it. This one suffered the same fate. Pool water got into it within a month of normal use. swimming in a pool seems to be to much for this thing.

The pins don't even come out easily to replace the band. I am pushing the pins in the direction of the arrow on the band as everyone says and the only difference it has made is the pin is becoming distorted on the end I am pushing. It's soft metal and has probably now just deformed enough to dig itself into the plastic permanent.

Looks much worse and smaller in person, too. The pics here make it look pretty cool with a nato strap. It doesn't look like that in person. It looks super small, super cheap and super ugly.
